ENGINEERING $25K PROTOTYPE FUNDING

If you are planning on participating in the UW Environmental Innovation Challenge, the College of Engineering has $25,000 available for student teams to produce their prototypes. The theme for this year’s challenge is CLEAN-TECH (with an emphasis on water). Proposal requests must be focused on clean-tech solutions. The application process for the $25K will be online and managed through the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), the host for the UW Environmental Innovation Challenge.

Deadline for Funding Applications: December 15, 2008*

Use of funds: Development of UW EIC prototypes. You can use this funding for purchasing materials for your prototype, renting equipment, purchasing safety equipment, and hiring short-term work beyond your team’s capacity. You cannot pay team members.

How much money can we apply for? We prefer to see requests between $2,500 and $5,000, but will consider both smaller and larger amounts.

Grant development period: January 5 - April 1, 2009. Any unspent development money must be returned to the $25K fund.

Who can apply: Any UW EIC team with at least one engineering student—and preferably 2—can apply, but the application must be submitted by the engineering student(s).

*Students/student teams have until December 15 to apply for the $25K prototype funds. If there is funding available after that time, requests will be considered on a first-come, first-considered basis until the funding is fully committed.
